Humans are Creatures of Habit!
Creature of Habit — a person who follows an unvarying routine. “He or she is a creature of habit — he or she keeps to the places they know”
What is a habit?
If we ask good old Wikipedia, the answer we would get is — “A habit (or won’t as a humorous and formal term) is a routine of behaviour that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously.”
So the easiest way to explain is that habit is a routine, which can be a good or a bad one!
Humans like to do things or behave in particular ways due to our impulses, and one of those impulses is the feeling of repetition or returning and doing things the way we know or feel good performing them.
We all have habits or routines that we follow on a short-term (daily) and long-term (monthly, annually, etc…) basis, but how do we know which are good and which are not? To make it easy for all of us to understand, anything that is a productive and successful behaviour pattern is a good habit and anything that is an unproductive or harmful (destructive/self-destructive) behaviour pattern is a bad habit.
Examples of good habits are:
- Practice Gratitude
- Never Give Up
- Respect Yourself
- Learn to Exercise Good Diet
- Manage Your (Money) Budgets Well
- Be Positive
Examples of bad habits are:
- Being Negative
- Stereotyping
- Always Complaining
- Overspending / Not Budgeting Well
- Losing Time on Unnecessary Things
- Not Respecting Others
- Not Respecting Yourself
We are all guilty of at least one or two bad habits from this list, so before advising anyone else I know I need to improve some of these points myself, too. But I would like to take this opportunity and ask you all to check and recognize your own bad habits, then realize what you need to do to fix, or change them to good ones and continue improving yourself all the time.
